Applications for Contemporary Istanbul 2017 are open. Each year, Contemporary Istanbul makes Istanbul the international center of contemporary art. The fair will take place between 14-17 September and once again bring together leading local and interntional  galleries with art-lovers.

 

Applications are open for Contemporary Istanbul 2017, the leading contemporary art platform of Turkey for 11 years, renewed and improved with the unique dynamism of contemporary art. Contemporary Istanbulwill continue to bring together the leading local and national contemporary art galleries in its 12th year between September 14-17, with its main sponsor Akbank Sanat.

 

Contemporary Istanbul will invite the leading galleries in the World to Istanbul in 2017, while keeping with the local content it has adapted since its founding and continue to take its place in the global art calendar and be a global platform for contemporary art with its new gallery profile.    

 

Contemporary Istanbul, now the center of discovery for the world’s contemporary art, will continue to grow in 2017 with increasing interest from both local and international art-lovers. The fair will continue to be a meeting point for art-lovers in 2017 , having brought together 70 art galleries, 520 artists, 32 designers, 8 art institutions and 6 art enterpreneurs from 20 different countries and attracted 90,000 art-lovers over five days last year. Drawing its inspiration from Istanbul with its unique geographical and artistic location, Contemporary Istanbul provides the exclusive opportunity to discover in depth different works of art from the artistic world by bringing together galleries, artists and collectioners from Turkey, Caucassus, Black Sea and the Middle East, as well as Europe, America and Asia.

 

Contemporary Istanbul will be bringing together Turkish and global art with a contemporary focus in September this year, changing from November in previous years, to join the Istanbul Biennial and opening exhibits of many other art institutions and galleries in the ‘’İstanbul Art Week’’ which takes place during the second week of September.

CI Chairman Ali Güreli awarded with the inaugural Outstanding Contribution to the Arts Award by TÜRSAK

On December 15th, CI Founder & Chairman Ali Güreli was awarded by the 19th Rendezvous Istanbul International Film Festival with the Outstanding Contribution to the Arts & Culture Award given for the first time in the festival’s history. Organized by #TURSAK Foundation with the supports of Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the festival's opening ceremony took place at the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall to welcome the cinephiles for a delightful finale to the year with 28 remarkable films from all around the world from December 16th to 22nd.

CI Taking Part in Miami Art Week with "Istanbul Meets Miami"

Having brought together 70 galleries from 20 countries and over 1,500 artworks by 520 artists in its 11th year, Contemporary Istanbul has started its preparations for its next edition with an exclusive event in Miami during Miami Art Week which showcased 24 art fairs and over 5000 galleries with an international contingent of modern, contemporary, and emerging artists.

On November 30th, Herrick Feinstein and Contemporary Istanbul co-hosted the cocktail reception, "Istanbul Meets Miami", gathering a record of over 220 attendees from the Turkish and American art communities at The Setai Hotel.

Having brought together 70 galleries from 20 countries and over 1,500 artworks by 520 artists in its 11th year, Contemporary Istanbul has started its preparations for its next edition with an exclusive event in Miami during Miami Art Week which showcased 24 art fairs and over 5000 galleries with an international contingent of modern, contemporary, and emerging artists.

Kamiar Maleki appointed as the Fair Director for CI 2017

Contemporary Istanbul is pleased to announce that Kamiar Maleki has been appointed as the Fair Director starting work on the 12th edition of CI in 2017. Kamiar Maleki is a London based collector and curator. With 15 years of experience in the contemporary art world in collecting and patronage, Maleki has developed a significant interest in emerging artists. Fostering numerous young artists’ careers from an early stage. He is a founding member of the ICA’s Young Patrons and is a Young Patron to Parasol Unit Foundation and Tate. His inaugural exhibition as a curator was the critically acclaimed group show, Hashtag Abstract (2015) followed by Primary Colours (2016), the first UK solo exhibition of works by Richard Höglund, both at Ronchini Gallery.

A High-Speed Tour: Contemporary Istanbul 2016

The 11th edition of Contemporary Istanbul ended on November 6th with great success. Continuing on its past critical acclaim, the fair showcased art from the region alongside works from around the world, lending the fair its distinct character as a place to discover and rediscover artists.

Presented for the first time at the fair was Collectors’ Stories, an exhibition of artworks
personally selected by 60 collectors from their private collections. Also new this year was CI
Design, which focused on functional art and unique design pieces and hosted exclusive works created by 32 designers through the directorship of Susan McMurrain. Dedicated to showcasing new media artworks, Plugin gathered also gathered 18 new media artists showcasing artworks at the intersection of science, technology, politics and art.
